The Gold Ridge RCD is reviving its watershed planning program in the Green Valley Watershed. As many of you know, the RCD had received funding from the State Coastal Conservancy in 2008 to develop a Green Valley Watershed Management Plan. That process was halted at the end of December 2008 because of the state budget crisis. We have been given the “ok” from the State Coastal Conservancy to once again begin work on the development of this plan.
Please join us on October 8 from 5:30 – 7:30 at the Graton Community Club to discuss opportunities to participate in this important planning process and to learn about other planning efforts in the works. The following speakers will be on hand to present information and answer questions:
Lisa Hulette, Executive Director, Gold Ridge RCD: What is an RCD and how you can participate in conservation programs.
John Green, Lead Scientist/Project Manager, Gold Ridge RCD: Methodologies used to assess erosion and how participating in this process can lead to grant funding for project implementation.
Matt Deitch, PhD (Center for Ecological Management and Restoration) : Matt has been working with the University of California Cooperative Extension (UCCE) to develop a GIS tool for large-scale flow recovery planning. This tool, used in conjunction with information from landowners and resource agency biologists regarding site conditions, will be used to identify and prioritize project reaches and examine ecological trade-offs associated with project implementation. Matt will discuss how this model will be used in the Green Valley Creek Watershed to determine where low streamflow may be limiting fish passage and how this tool will be used to guide future funding for on the ground projects.
